Wat Samraong Knong

roughly translated as ‘Wat in the forest’ is an extremely antique pagoda on the japanese side of the Sangker River. The eerie vintage Wat turned into used as a Khmer Rouge jail, and there had been many executions at the premises. A new pagoda is now being built, and there’s a memorial to the sufferers of the Khmer Rouge regime, with image illustrations just to the north.

There are several opportunities to discover villages just south of town. The Cultural village of Watkor, only some kilometres south of the metropolis centre has several “ancient wood homes” from the early twentieth century. Further south are the rural villages of Kompong Seyma, and Ksach Puoy.
